My Marriage With Yomi Casual

How did you meet your wife?

I met my wife at a friend’s birthday party. She came with her elder sister. I saw a pretty girl wearing blazers under the sun and I said to myself, “why is a beautiful girl wearing a suit to a birthday party.” She was decently dressed and I was so impressed. She was quite difficult at first. But when she realised I had good intentions for her, we exchanged phone numbers and got talking and the rest as they say is history.

Can you remember the first words you said to her?

The first words I said to her was “The weather is very hot, do you want to shade in my car?” because she was sweating profusely.

When did you know you would end up marrying her?

I knew she was the one for me when I realised that if I let her go, my life would be so miserable. I was in a relationship before I met her but like every young guy I wanted to have fun. When it was time for her to leave, I couldn’t let her go because she rocked my boots and I loved many things about her. I realised then that it was the things one complained about a woman that one really liked about her.

What event made your wedding memorable?

The entrance into our wedding reception was amazing. It was different because we came in with a maserati and drove into the venue with fireworks and smoke effects everywhere. It was so grand and I cannot forget it so fast.

How has the marital journey been?

It has been smooth, good and rough at some point. The truth is there will always be days that you both will have your differences. The fact that one can have misunderstanding with one’s blood relations, then one should expect such from one’s relationship with one’s spouse. It’s normal. But then we’ve had sweet and amazing moments that cover up for the times of misunderstanding. We enjoy more than we fight and know how to create fun times for ourselves. We create time to go to the movies, try new wine and go on vacations because my wife loves to travel a lot.

How have you been able to balance your career and home?

I have been able to balance my career and home because of a good and understanding woman by my side. She understands what I do and knows that I have been this way before we started dating. She can easily predict my movements because I don’t usually go out. I create time for my family during weekends to bond with them. My friends know this so they don’t invite me out on Saturdays because they know it is dedicated to my family.

What has been the best part of your marriage?

Every moment counts and has been amazing in my marriage. Children bring so much joy and unite families. Our first daughter brought us so close. Her birth was an amazing moment for me. She has been able to control me in terms of raising my voice when she does something wrong and I’m slowly learning not to be the kind of dad that screams at his children.

What’s your advice to young people planning to marry?

My advice to them is that it takes two to fight. If Mr A is screaming and Mr B is quiet that means there’s no fight. You have to play the fool sometimes to make peace. But it doesn’t make one a fool.
